It’s just the second week of the college football season, but things are getting ugly in a hurry in Charlottesville.
The Virginia Cavaliers went down for the second straight week, this time to the TCU Horned Frogs, 30-16.
TCU is ranked fairly high, so the loss this week isn’t as bad as the season opening loss to the Richmond Spiders. That was pretty much as bad as it gets, especially since Richmond considers Virginia a big rival of theirs.
Nonetheless, Virginia hasn’t even hit the ACC schedule yet and already finds itself with two losses. They are going to need to get things turned around quickly or risk a truly embarassing season.

For the Virginia Cavaliers, embarassment on the football field is nothing new for the struggling program. However, some felt that the team might be ready to take a big step forward in 2009, enough to at least qualify for a bowl game.
Any such thoughts must be put on indefinite hold after the host Wahoos failed to beat lowly William & Mary in their season opener, falling 24-16.
While the CAA is an improving conference, a team like Virginia should never lose to such an opponent on their home field. Head coach Al Groh said there is no reason to panic and he expected these growing pains at the start of the year.
